ABOUT

Nady Mayifuila is an International Business Attorney.


She advises and provides legal assistance and representation to individuals and companies doing business in the United States & in Africa, mainly French-speaking countries that are Member-States of the Organization for the Harmonization of Business Law in Africa (OHADA). 


Prior to establishing her own practice, she worked in small and mid-size Firms, in the DR Congo, in France, and in New York. In 2010, she led the expansion of the largest Law Firm of the OHADA Region by opening their New York Office, which she managed for almost a decade. 


She was trained in both common law and civil law. She has an LL.M. in Banking, Corporate and Finance Law, from Fordham University, School of Law, as well as JD degrees from France and the DR Congo. 


She is admitted to the New State York Bar, and before the U.S. Southern & Eastern Districts of New York. 
 

Nady regularly publishes articles on a wide range of legal topics. She also serves as mentor to law students & junior lawyers. In 2019, she launched MayiflawOnline, a mentoring program aiming to help law students and junior lawyers from Civil Law countries hone their legal research, writing, and analysis skills.


Nady speaks English, French, and Italian.

International and Cross-border Practice

Thanks to her background and experience, Nady understands particularly well the legal issues and risks international clients venturing into African markets face. She is well versed in anti-corruption related-regulations, including the U.S. Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

 

She has provided legal assistance to clients related to their anti-corruption strategies, including preparing and reviewing materials for local policies, programs or workshops. 
 

She supports clients across industries in all aspects of their projects, from market analysis, business introductions, exploitation on the ground to market exit planning. 


She provides, alongside her international colleagues, cost-effective legal due diligence-related support on corporate and financing transactions in the OHADA Region. 

U.S. Practice

Nady is well positioned to assist international clients eager to expand their business activities in the U.S., and overcome the cultural challenges they often face. She regularly advises clients on the appropriate corporate structure for their project, assists with corporate formation formalities, negotiations of Lease agreements, and other keys agreements. 
 

Nady represents international clients with both business or personal dealings in the U.S. She has provided assistance to individual clients seeking to obtain personal documents from various administrations including Vital Records, Embassies or Consulate (including Apostille or other type of notarial certification), Probate proceedings, or access to a deceased relative's bank account. 
 

She has helped clients secure reliable representation in various U.S. States in connection with debt recovery from U.S. businesses or individuals, or international child custody disputes. 

Diplomatic Practice & Litigation 

Nady has extensive experience providing legal assistance to Embassies and Consulates on U.S. laws, particularly employment issues, civil disputes, as well as considerations related to the U.S. Foreign Immunities Act. 


She has represented instrumentalities of foreign countries, and individual diplomats before both Federal and State courts.
